When I first got on island it took me a while to find my favorite service providers, for example doctors, hair services, spa services ect. Now having been here almost 3 years I have picked my favorites and want to share them with newcomers to the island.
Doctor
I was fortunate enough to find the best doctors on island on the first try. Dr Hobday and Dr Osterloh at
Cayman Clinic are amazing. They are incredibly helpful, attentive and patient. I am sure there are many good doctors on the island but everyone I know who goes to Cayman Clinic loves these doctors. I have also heard horror stories from people about other places on island where the patient had unnecessary tests and even surgeries done.
Hair
I have wavy somewhat frizzy hair so I wear it up most of the time. I found it very frustrating when I first got here and had to pay 70CI for a haircut that no one would even see. Finally I found a place where I could just pay 35CI for a trim (without a blow-dry) with no fuss. Since then Liza, my hairdresser, has opened up her own shop called
Lux. They also have spa services with some amazing specials.
Facials
I was never one to believe in facials but I heard a few people raving about the hydra facial. The
DaVinci Wellness Center offers these facials and often on special for 75CI. The DaVinci Wellness Center has very good monthly specials. My mildly problematic skin had a full turn around after Carmen worked on it. I now go once a month and am always happy with the service.
Optometrist
I unfortunately have not found a good one on island. I have been to one and it was just terrible so I got scared off and when I was back in Canada for Christmas I went to the one I have been going to since I was a teenager. I have heard that CAD Optical, across from Pasadora Place on Smith road was good though.
Auto Care
You will need good auto care constantly on the island. I have never heard so many people having car troubles as I do here! A place called
Auto King was suggested to me when I first came to the island. I have been a such a frequent customer (because my first car was a complete lemon) that they now give me a discount and know me by name. I have never felt like they did unnecessary work or over charged me. They have also picked me up and dropped me off when my car was in for service.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog through Expats Blog and I really enjoyed your posts! I've added your blog to our "Blogs We Follow" list on my website.
My website, www.womenwholiveonrocks.com, is a collaboration of funny women writers, blogging all about the quirks and eccentricities unique to island living.
As a fellow island girl, I'm sure you'll be able to relate to some of our humorous stories. I'm always looking for fresh perspectives and you seem like a great fit for the site. Women who write for the site contribute as much or as little as they like - having fun and celebrating the humor of island life is what it's all about (and, you know, griping sometimes! ;) ).
If you're ever interested in writing with us, whether as a regular contributor or as a featured guest, just let me know and I can send you the details on how to join in.
Cheers! chrissann@womenwholiveonrocks.com
Thanks for pointing out your website! I have only had a chance to read a few entries but they are very funny and fitting. I look forward to reading more and will definitely think about something to contribute :)
Delete@cayman expat: lovely post. I actually just started a blog on services or things lacking in Cayman that aspiring entrepreneurs can help provide. Check out my very new and green blog - caymandistinct@wordpress.com
Delete@Chrissann: Funny blog. I'm interested. I will chat with you soon.
Thank you for the information. As a fellow Canadian looking to move to the Island your insight is very valuable. Thanks again! CL
ReplyDeleteWhat about dentists?
ReplyDeleteHi DK, I'm a qualified CA at a big 4 in Edinburgh and hoping to come over to Caymans or Bermuda, my office has good links with Bermuda but i'm hoping for Caymans. My boyfriend is actually at BDO here so we'll need to decide together. Is the big intake in September? Do they ever recruit outside of that? Also do you know anyone that has shipped their cats over and if so, if it was difficult to then find accommodation? (I really don't want to leave them!)
