Batabano 2012

I never really had any interest in participating in any kind of carnival. However I will never pass up an opportunity to try something new. Every year cayman has a large street festival called batabano. Last year I caught a little bit of it but had no idea what it was. This year a friend of mine suggested we join the swanky band. It is the biggest band(what the carnival groups are called) and wins the awards for best costumes every year.

So a brave friend of mine and I signed up and gave our deposits. We were both terrified, of showing so much of ourselves for possibly getting grinded on! Our fears were totally without merit. Not once did we have to fight anyone off. This was definitely one of the best island experiences I have ever had!

Great thing about our band was that both last years and this years miss Cayman's were in our band. I got pictures with them both.

I highly recommend everyone do this at least once in their lives. It seems a lot more intimidating then it is!
