To Do or Not To Do Batabano?

Batabano 2013 has come and gone. My partner in crime from last year ensured we registered for the event back in Nov 2012, which I thought was ridiculous at the time but our costumes were sold out by early February so I was grateful.

This year was similar to last year but there were a few differences
  1. The parade route was doubled in length. Wow! I think I prefered the shorter route as we were able to relax a bit. This year I spent some time trying to catch up to the parade after a pit stop.
  2. Color!! This year our costumes were purple and blue (my favorite colors) unlike last years white. I was determined not to wear white as the colors just make everything more fun. They are also a lot more forgiving!
  3. I had more friends do it with me this year. There was a lot of pressure on me for it to be good! All the girls were nervous about the skimpy outfits and the unknown. But everyone had an amazing time and all want to do it again next year.
If you are contemplating participating in Batabano all I can say is do it! It will be different/better then you expected. There are thousands of people out participating and the vibe just can't be beat. Although it is quite expensive and a bit disorganized I do recommend the swanky band as it is easy to get into and they always win for best band.

There are some safety concerns with Batabano as there have been sexual assaults related to Batabano reported in the past. This year was no exception. The key thing is make sure you have an exit plan at the end of the parade. Whether it is a boyfriend who will scoop you up and take you home or cab fair.
