One of the many activities people do out here is paddleboarding. Essentially you stand on a surf board and paddling. This is good exercise for the core and arms as you balance, which is a lot harder then it looks! The water in cayman is very very calm so it is perfect for paddleboarding. I had the opportunity to try one of these out. I only fell 3 times which is not too bad.
Out snorkeling one day I see a large spike sticking out from a hole in between some rocks. What I saw was huge and scary and I had no idea what it was. Luckily my company recognized it as a lobster. Turns out the native lobsters here are a little different then the lobsters back home. They are called spiny lobsters. Two of the pictures below I got from a this website.
Hey I came across your blog as I was doing some searching for moving to the Cayman Islands. Pretty cool to get someone's first hand account of the island rather than some tourist or government website. I was wondering if you knew of any surf on the island? It's not the end of the world if there isnt, but it would be a big plus. I came across this problem while living in bermuda - there are practically no waves.
ReplyDeleteHey Tom,
DeleteGlad you enjoyed the blog :)
As for surf there is not a huge amount most of the time. One of the guys at my work surfs (he is just starting out). There are surfing spots is in South Sound. I cannot say how it compares to Bermuda as I have not been there though. He uses this site http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?sc=74107 to figure out if the surf is good on any given day.
Awesome thanks for the info!
